To sit your PRINCE2 exam, all you’ll need is a laptop or home computer, a webcam, a form of photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.), a stable internet connection, and a quiet room to work in.

The price of a PRINCE2 exam varies between training providers. You can expect the price of a PRINCE2 exam to range anywhere from £500 to £700 in the UK.

The Foundation PRINCE2 exam requires that you can answer short questions regarding the basics of the PRINCE2 method such as the intent, purpose and application of the PRINCE2 practices, principles, people, and processes.

The Practitioner PRINCE2 exam is more involved, presenting candidates with compound, multi-part questions and answers. To pass this exam, you’ll need a solid understanding of the PRINCE2 method, and how it can be tailored to suit different project requirements, resources and environments.

Passing your PRINCE2 exams will award you with an internationally recognised project management certification.

PRINCE2 exams can no longer be taken in person at an exam centre. All PRINCE2 exams must now be sat online through AXELOS. If you book a PRINCE2 online exam through us, we’ll provide you with an exam voucher – required to register for an online exam, as well as access to our self-study courses and practice exams to help you prepare.

To take a PRINCE2 online exam, you’ll need a stable internet connection, a webcam, a quiet room to sit the exam and identification (photo ID, passport, driver’s license etc.). PRINCE 2 exams are monitored by an external invigilator.

The PRINCE2 Foundation level exam is a short, 1-hour, multiple choice paper. Students are tested on the basic PRINCE2 principles, practices, people, and processes that underpin the method. The Foundation PRINCE2 exam is closed book, it does not allow additional reading material, nor does it allow use of the PRINCE2 manual. The PRINCE2 Foundation exam is a relatively simple test with a national average pass rates in the UK of 95% (Our students at PRINCE2 Online have a pass rate of 99%!).

The Practitioner PRINCE2 exam is a 2.5-hour, objective question test. Candidates are tested on more advanced questions such as how to tailor individual aspects of the PRINCE2 method to suit varying contexts. Questions are presented not in multiple choice format, but as objective-type questions. This means you may be asked to select 4 responses from a group of 12 possible correct answers. Often, you might find that all possible answers are correct but must find the ‘best’ solution to a given problem.

In the Practitioner PRINCE2 exam, you’ll be allowed use of notes and the PRINCE2 manual. We strongly advise against relying on the manual to pass, however. There’s simply not enough time given in the exam to read through a chapter in search of answers.

The manual should be used sparingly, with notes to help you find those small pieces of relevant information quickly. The Practitioner PRINCE2 exam is more challenging than the Foundation PRINCE2 exam. The UK national average pass rate is 73% but our students at have an average pass rate of 83%.

PRINCE2 Foundation exam

• The exam duration is 1 hour
• Answers are presented as multiple choice
• The pass mark is 60% or 36 correct answers out of 60 questions
• No additional reading material is allowed, nor are candidates allowed use of the PRINCE2 manual
• There are no prerequisites to sit this exam
• Results will be given on the same day, or within 1 working day of completing your exam.

PRINCE2 Practitioner exam

• The exam duration is 150 minutes (2.5 hours)
• Answers are presented as objective-type (compound answers)
• The pass mark is 60% or 42 correct answers of 70 questions
• Candidates may make use of the PRINCE2 manual and additional notes
• To sit this exam you must first pass the Foundation PRINCE2 exam
• Results will be given on the same day, or within 1 working day of completing your exam.

The PRINCE2 Foundation exam aims to validate your ability to work as an informed member of a PRINCE2 project management team in a PRINCE2 project environment. To pass this exam, you’ll need to understand the basics of the PRINCE2 method, such as the PRINCE2 principles and certain terminology used to describe PRINCE2. Before you attempt the PRINCE2 Foundation exam, we recommend you have a good understanding of the following:

• The purpose and responsibilities of all roles in the PRINCE2 framework
• The purpose and application of the 7 PRINCE2 Principles, the 7 PRINCE2 Practices, and the 7 PRINCE2 Processes
• The PRINCE2 management products, which of the 7 processes create management products as an output and which require management products as an input
• The main purpose and key content of PRINCE2 management products
• The relationship between the PRINCE2 Processes, project deliverables, PRINCE2 roles and the management dimensions of a PRINCE2 project.

Those who pass the PRINCE2 Foundation exam acquire a PRINCE2 Foundation certification are then eligible to take the PRINCE2 Practitioner course and exam.

PRINCE2 Practitioner training teaches you how to take all those ideas and concepts taught in the Foundation course and apply them to the management of simple PRINCE2 projects. PRINCE2 is not prescriptive in its approach to project management. It’s a very flexible and forgiving framework. PRINCE2 encourages its practitioners to adjust their approach to project management depending on the context and available resources. Much of the PRINCE2 Practitioner syllabus is dedicated to explaining which components of the PRINCE2 framework can and cannot be tailored to meet requirements.

The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam tests and validates your understanding of key concepts within the PRINCE2 methodology, as well as your ability to tailor your PRINCE2 project management approach to any given scenario using the tools and techniques taught in a PRINCE2 Practitioner course. The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam requires that candidates first complete a PRINCE2 Foundation exam.
